What it does

3D LUT Creator is Windows and Mac software for adjusting colour relationships through grids and curves. It exports lookup tables, or LUTs, that carry a colour transformation into another editor, with features divided among three paid editions.

The A/B grid changes hue and saturation while keeping brightness separate. C/L controls adjust contrast within colour ranges. For video, open a representative frame, develop the adjustment and export a LUT for the video editor. The manual’s File menu includes Export 3DLUT File and Send 3DLUT to Photoshop.

Export formats include .cube, .3dl and .csp, plus specified image-based LUT layouts. A .luc preset keeps the editable grid, curves and other settings rather than just the final colour transform. Image input in Lab colour space is not supported.

Edition Documented distinctions
Grading Edition A/B and Curves tabs; Colour Match; LUT size up to 33 points per side
Standard Colour Match disabled; LUT size up to 33 points per side
Pro Colour Match, colour-target support and batch processing; LUT size up to 96 points per side

The demo can display an edited image but cannot save images or LUTs. Paid licences have no monthly fee, and an older purchased version remains usable. Updates within 1.xx are included; a later major version costs 50% of its then-current price. Windows and Mac use separate licences.

Strengths

  • Grid controls separate hue/saturation changes from colour-dependent contrast.
  • Editable presets preserve the controls as well as the exported transform.

Watch out for

  • The demo cannot save images or LUTs.
  • Windows and Mac require separate licences.
  • Lab-space image input is unsupported.

Best for

  • Retouchers and colourists preparing transferable colour adjustments.
