What it does

Forester is a Cinema 4D plug-in for creating trees, smaller plants and rocks and distributing them across terrain. Its four modules combine editable natural objects with wind and scattering controls. Licences are permanent and tied to one machine; there is no trial version.

Forester Trees can start from a library item or a new tree. Multiflora supplies plants such as grass and flowers. MultiCloner places objects according to slope, height, noise, weight maps or the camera's visible area. Forester Rock generates rocks, but it does not include a ready-made rock library.

Tree controls include trunk paths drawn with splines, bend and turbulence, root-flare count and render subdivision. Wind can loop over a chosen number of frames. To render wind with motion blur, use Cache Simulation under a tree's Simulation tab or a Multiflora plant's HyperWind tab.

Materials and licensing

The base plug-in creates standard Cinema 4D materials. Expansion Packs add native materials for renderers including Redshift, Octane, Arnold, Corona and V-Ray; those packs require a licensed copy of Forester.

A purchase includes two years of 1.x point updates. Further point updates need maintenance, while the licence itself continues. Activation is tied to the selected computer's network hardware address, and a changed machine requires a new key from 3DQUAKERS. Render clients can use Team Render or command-line rendering without an extra Forester licence.

Strengths

  • Wind can be cached for motion-blurred animation.
  • Render clients do not need additional Forester licences.

Watch out for

  • There is no trial, and the licence is tied to one computer.
  • Supplied renderer-native materials require an Expansion Pack.

Best for

  • Cinema 4D artists building planted environments
  • Motion designers animating procedural vegetation
