What it does

Absa’s banking app provides bill payments, beneficiary management and account documents. Customers can download a stamped statement, change card limits or temporarily block selected transaction types. Lost-device access can be removed through Absa Online.

Get a stamped statement

Select the relevant account on the app’s home screen, open Statements, then choose Download stamped statement (.pdf). Set the date range and download the file. This produces a document for sharing or keeping, rather than just displaying recent transactions.

A bank confirmation letter uses a different route: Menu > Documents > Bank confirmation letter. Select the account, approve the verification request and save the letter.

Control the card separately

Under Cards, select the card and choose Temporary lock. Pick the transaction types to suspend, confirm and approve the request on the registered device. The app also provides PIN retrieval and card-limit changes. If the phone itself is lost, Manage Devices in Absa Online lets you unlink it.

Existing customers need a registered mobile number, account number, ATM card and PIN to set up the app. New customers applying through the app use the account-opening route instead.

Two account examples

Transact costs R7.50 monthly and includes unlimited card purchases. Applicants provide a South African ID or, for foreign nationals, a passport, plus proof of residence no older than three months. No payslip or minimum income is required.

MegaU youth banking has no monthly fee and includes digital access and Absa ATM withdrawals. Its application requirements list a R10 opening deposit and continuing minimum balance. Parents can apply at a branch for a child, with parental consent required below age 16. The app’s free-data offer is separate from account and transaction charges.

Strengths

  • Stamped statements download as PDFs
  • Temporary card locks can target selected transaction types
  • Lost-device access can be removed through online banking

Watch out for

  • Existing-customer app setup needs the registered mobile number and card credentials
  • MegaU requires a R10 minimum balance

Best for

  • Absa customers who need statements and confirmation letters
  • South African households managing card settings from a phone
