What it does
Adobe Animate combines vector artwork, frame-by-frame drawing and animation publishing. It remains available in maintenance mode, with security and bug fixes but no new features planned.
For a blinking character, keep the stable face apart from the changing eyelids. Add a keyframe, modify the copied artwork and repeat for the next movement. Onion skinning shows neighbouring frames; its tint and opacity controls distinguish earlier and later drawings. Locked layers are omitted from that view.
A PNG sequence can come from a single symbol on the Stage or in the Library. Choose dimensions and 32-bit colour for transparent output; Stage-instance transforms are preserved. Animated GIF, SVG sequences and video through Media Encoder provide other handoffs. GIF dimensions must remain below 4,000 pixels.
Adobe lists the individual subscription at US$22.99 per month on an annual plan billed monthly, with a trial available. Maintenance mode applies to new and existing customers. Existing integrations remain supported at their current level, with no new integrations planned.
Strengths
- Onion-skin controls help compare successive drawings
- Symbol-level image sequences support another production stage
Watch out for
- Adobe plans no new features or integrations
- GIF output has a documented dimension ceiling
Best for
- Established frame-by-frame and vector animation workflows
