What it does
AFRINIC's WHOIS Services and Tools provide number-resource registration lookup, RDAP access and related reverse-DNS and IP utilities.
Choose registration lookup for an address or ASN, or the reverse-DNS tool for a delegation question. AFRINIC’s tutorial describes Whois records as plain attribute-value objects selected by their primary keys. Its RDAP documentation separates IP networks, autonomous systems, reverse domains and entities. An IP query returns the most-specific encompassing network; an out-of-region resource receives a redirect to the relevant RDAP service. These are registry objects and contacts, not proof of current reachability or the person using an address. Maintenance and authenticated changes are separate from reading records, and reuse remains subject to the published data terms.
Strengths
- Registry-operated lookup
- Related IP and reverse-DNS utilities
Watch out for
- Use of registry data is subject to its published terms
