What it does
AlfaType is Joseph Miceli’s type-design practice, producing retail and commissioned fonts for print and screen. Its site includes specimen controls and detailed usage-based licensing.
AlfaType's specimen panels group weights and variants with controls for alternate characters, information, downloads and background. The foundry also supplies fully functional trial fonts by arrangement, on the understanding that commercial use will be licensed for the client. Existing designs can be adapted or extended through its custom-font service.
Plan around the licence term as well as the design. The standard term is five years unless the invoice says otherwise. Pricing depends on company size and the intended use, with separate coverage for desktop work, websites, apps and other outputs. A web licence covers one domain and up to five subdomains; outside designers or developers who need the font files require the Third-Party Extension.
The site says its checkout is being updated: older workstation, visitor or device tiers may still appear even though the current model uses company size. Contact AlfaType if those options do not match the organization being licensed. A registered trademark and branded social-media use can also need coverage beyond the basic desktop licence.
