What it does
Ally Bank’s Spending Account combines checking, bill payments and debit-card access with buckets for setting money aside. It has no monthly maintenance fee, overdraft fee or minimum balance. The bank operates without branches, with digital access and round-the-clock support.
A spending bucket can distinguish money reserved for a bill from the amount available for ordinary purchases. Ally lets you assign a purpose, target amount and due date, while a cash-flow chart compares monthly money coming in and going out. Savings accounts have their own buckets and saving tools.
The Spending Account has no monthly maintenance or overdraft fee and no minimum balance. Network ATMs are free, with up to $10 per statement cycle reimbursed for fees at other domestic ATMs. Cash deposits are available free at Walmart customer service desks and Money Centers: open Menu → Add Cash in the Ally app, show the generated barcode and hand over the cash.
To apply, choose the account and Open Account, enter personal details and select funding options. Applicants must be at least 18, reside in the United States and have a U.S. street address; an SSN or tax identification number is accepted. Approval is confirmed by email.
For funding from another bank, the documented route is Transfers → Bank Transfers → + Link other accounts. Mobile cheque deposits and bill pay provide alternatives to branch visits, while phone support remains available around the clock.
