What it does
Kindle Create is a free desktop application for turning manuscripts into Kindle books. It supports reflowable books, print-replica layouts, and guided-view comic or children's-book formats.
Choose the book type according to the material. A novel benefits from reflowable text, while a visually fixed textbook may need print replica. The latter does not allow readers to resize text and supports fewer devices. Kindle Create formats interiors; the official FAQ explicitly says it does not design covers.
For a reflowable book, finish the manuscript first, import DOC/DOCX, apply styles and contents, preview it, then export the publishable KPF. Print Replica instead starts from PDF and has a stated 650 MB limit. Tables, lists and some complex formatting are not fully editable after import, and comics need their text in the source pages before import. KPF export prepares a file; publishing it through KDP is a separate action.
Strengths
- Provides separate workflows for reflowable and visually fixed books.
Watch out for
- Print-replica books do not support text resizing and work only on certain devices.
- Does not provide cover-design tools.
Best for
- Preparing a completed manuscript for Kindle publication
