What it does
Anaplan connects financial scenarios, consolidation and reporting with plans maintained by other business teams. Shared models and assigned tasks help budget owners work from common assumptions. Its optional CoModeler assists model builders through prompts, with separate subscription and administrator requirements.
Anaplan connects financial planning with the operating assumptions maintained by other teams. Shared source data and workflows support forward-looking scenarios, while the finance offering includes analysis, consolidation and reporting. Workforce or sales plans can supply context for a financial planning discussion. The models need consistent business definitions so that a changed result can be traced to the assumptions behind it.
Assigning a planning task
A Workflow owner can open a worksheet or board page, choose Create task, then Page Task. Add a title and instructions, select the assignee, optionally set a due date and time zone, and create the task. The recipient must have a role in the page's model. This creates a one-off task for one person, such as asking a budget owner to update next month's hiring assumptions.
Model-building assistance
CoModeler is a separate subscription that must be activated for the workspace, and its users must be workspace administrators. From an open model, use the AI control in the navigation bar to describe a change in English. It can propose numbered actions for review, and you can approve selected steps.
Starting a prompt with Approve or Approved authorizes immediate action instead of a separate plan-approval stage. Changes appear in model history under the user's name with AI-Assisted as the method. The model can be reverted to an earlier version. CoModeler follows the user's permissions, and conversation context does not carry into a new session.
Anaplan users need access to an organization workspace and its models. Contact Anaplan to discuss pricing and scope; there is no public numerical tariff on its main product and contact pages. Include the planning applications, model-building roles and optional AI services in that discussion.
Strengths
- Financial scenarios can use assumptions maintained by workforce and sales teams
- Page tasks can specify an assignee, due date and time zone
- CoModeler changes appear in the standard model history
Watch out for
- CoModeler needs its own subscription and workspace-administrator access
- A page task goes to one person who already has a model role
- Pre-approved CoModeler prompts execute without a separate approval plan
Best for
- Enterprise finance teams coordinating plans across departments
- Model administrators developing shared planning applications
