What it does
Anishu's HomeBudget connects household bills, expenses, income and account balances across mobile and desktop apps. Family Sync lets a household maintain one set of records. Full editions are separate purchases for each operating system; the free iPhone Lite edition is limited to 20 expense and 10 income entries.
When a bill is paid, HomeBudget can record it as an expense or as an account transfer. That distinction helps keep a card-bill payment from counting the original purchases a second time.
Share the household record
- On the main device, open Settings > Family Sync and create a group with a name and password.
- Join that group from Family Sync on each additional device.
- Choose Send Initial Data on the main device, then Receive Initial Data immediately on the others. This is required even when all devices are starting empty.
- Close and reopen HomeBudget on the devices before entering shared transactions.
The device that created a recurring item generates later occurrences, so it must remain active in the group. If it is replaced, those recurring items need to be recreated on an active device.
Mobile editions and prices
| Edition | US store price | Entry allowance |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone/iPad Lite | Free | 20 expenses and 10 income entries |
| iPhone/iPad full | US$4.99 once | Full edition |
| Android full | US$5.99 once | Full edition |
Windows and Mac versions are also available. Each operating system requires a separate purchase. For an existing iPhone or Android Lite budget, Settings > Export Data to HomeBudget transfers its data to the paid app.
Strengths
- Category and subcategory budgets can carry unused amounts into the next period.
- Reports compare expenses, budgets and income over the most recent six months.
Watch out for
- Family Sync does not transfer receipt images or uploaded category icons.
Best for
- Households that want each paid bill to update the associated account record
