What it does
Apprenticeships.gov.uk explains apprenticeship choices, applications, training and support for apprentices in England. It links to Find an apprenticeship and covers preparation, assessments and help during training.
Before searching vacancies, read how an apprenticeship works and what experience different programmes require. The site explains that requirements vary, so it is a useful place to compare this route with other study or work options. It then directs applicants to the separate Find an apprenticeship service.
The preparation material goes beyond being hired. It introduces off-the-job training, knowledge, skills and behaviours, and assessment expectations. Existing apprentices can find support for training or workplace problems and use the Your Apprenticeship app. The service explicitly provides separate links for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Follow the appropriate national route rather than assuming the England information governs an apprenticeship elsewhere in the UK.
To start an apprenticeship in England, you need to be at least 16, live in England and be outside full-time education. You can apply while still at school if you will be 16 by the end of the summer holidays when starting.
