What it does
Art Set 4 simulates watercolour, thick paint and drawing tools on iPad. Free tools include PSD export and time-lapse recording; a single Pro upgrade adds layers, masks and custom canvases.
Wet paint can flow into nearby marks, while thick paint can be etched back. Use a small study to compare those behaviours before building a larger composition. Slow Draw makes the stroke trail behind the input for smoother curves.
Pro adds symmetry, adjustable brush dynamics and layered editing. Set the final canvas dimensions before painting detailed texture: maximum resolution depends on the iPad. A split-screen reference can stay beside the canvas, and PSD export provides a route for continuing work elsewhere.
Strengths
- Watercolour flow and thick paint offer different mark-making behaviours.
- PSD export and time-lapse recording are included among the free tools.
Watch out for
- Layers, masks and custom canvases require Pro.
- Maximum canvas resolution depends on the device.
Best for
- iPad painting studies
- Simulated wet-media experiments
