What it does
Dime is a free personal expense tracker for iPhone, with category budgets and spending breakdowns over different periods. It is designed for people who record their own purchases and want to compare them with an allowance. Rafael Soh offers the app without paid feature restrictions or advertising, and publishes its source under GPL-3.0.
Set a budget for the categories you want to follow, then capture purchases through the quick entry or home-screen actions. Reminders prompt expense entry rather than moving money or paying a bill.
Recurring expenses can use custom time frames. You can also change the start of the budgeting month to match a payday, rather than treating the first of every month as the only boundary.
When adding a transaction, swipe to switch between expense and income. Mistaken deletions can be undone, and a day's transactions can be saved as an image for sharing. Searching by amount helps find a particular entry.
Strengths
- iCloud synchronization carries expenses, categories and budgets to another supported device.
- Home-screen and lock-screen widgets show spending information without opening the full app.
Watch out for
- The app is listed in English only; Mac use requires macOS 12 or later and an Apple M1 or newer chip.
Best for
- iPhone users whose personal budget period starts on a payday
