What it does

Ark UI is a headless component library built on Zag state machines. It provides composable, unstyled components for React, Vue, Solid and Svelte with a shared API approach.

Ark’s components expose separate parts so you can supply the visual design while keeping their shared interaction logic. Install the package for React, Solid, Vue or Svelte, then compose a control from its parts. A dialog, for example, combines a root, trigger, backdrop, positioner, content, title, description and close trigger.

The dialog supports controlled state through open and onOpenChange, plus initial and final focus targets. Its normal keyboard behavior traps Tab navigation within the dialog and returns focus when Escape closes it. For content that should be removed while closed, use lazyMount with unmountOnExit: the guide warns that conditionally removing the entire root can break focus handling and cleanup.

Ark UI is free under MIT and local package use needs no account. Ark Plus sells additional examples through a one-time Personal or Team licence with lifetime updates. Plus requires purchase activation and offers no free trial, although some examples are free. The core components remain unstyled, so the visual treatment is yours to build.

Strengths

  • Component parts remain available for custom composition and styling.
  • A shared approach covers React, Vue, Solid and Svelte.
  • Dialog documentation covers focus targets, controlled state and mounting behavior.

Watch out for

  • The library leaves the complete visual treatment to the adopting team.

Best for

  • Teams building custom design systems across supported frameworks
