What it does
ArrowType is Stephen Nixon’s type studio, publishing original retail fonts and providing custom design and font engineering. Its catalog includes Name Sans and Name Mono.
Name Sans provides a concrete way to evaluate ArrowType's approach. Its Try it area separates Optical Size, Weight and Italic controls. The OT Features menu adds choices such as a slashed zero, tabular figures and alternate letterforms. The family also includes named Text, Standard and Display styles, with a specimen and How To Use PDF beside the language information.
The commercial licence combines desktop work, collaborative tools such as Figma, self-hosted webfonts and direct app or game embedding. Pricing uses the benefiting company's size: count all employees plus outside people who will have access to the fonts. Web traffic does not set a separate allowance, but growth beyond the licensed company tier needs an upgrade. Broadcast use has exceptions and may need special licensing.
The trial form asks for a name, email and licence agreement. Trials can be used for evaluation and client pitches; public use needs commercial licensing. For a project requiring additional characters, custom drawing or a specialized build process, the studio also offers design and font-engineering services.
ArrowType also publishes Recursive separately as a free, open-source family under the SIL Open Font License. It combines proportional and monospaced styles with variable controls. Its free licence should not be confused with the evaluation-only trials of ArrowType’s paid retail fonts.
