What it does
ArtRage provides natural-media painting applications. Its desktop and mobile products simulate drawing and paint behaviour, including oil blending, watercolour and textured surfaces.
For a painting intended for print, use Print Size in the New File panel and enter the physical dimensions and the printer’s required resolution. ArtRage calculates the canvas pixels. On desktop, File > Import Image File starts a painting from an existing image; Import Image to layer places one in the current painting. File > Export Image File produces the finished image.
Oil paint can be smeared and blended, while pencil softness and canvas texture change the mark. Mobile editions include reference images, layers and presets for saving tool settings. Desktop Vitae also offers tiled painting across canvas edges and PaintLink collaboration.
The current desktop and mobile apps are paid purchases without a subscription. The separate ArtRage 6 demo has no expiry but cannot save, export or record scripts. It is an older edition, not a demo of all Vitae features.
Strengths
- Natural-media tools respond to canvas texture and blending.
- Mobile tool presets preserve preferred settings.
Watch out for
- The ArtRage 6 demo cannot save or export artwork and does not include all Vitae features.
- Desktop, mobile and Lite editions have different scopes.
Best for
- Painters moving from physical media
- Textured digital sketches
