What it does

Virtual Intranet Access connects remote users to an Aruba enterprise network and changes its IPsec connection behavior between trusted and untrusted networks.

The VIA 4.x guide for ArubaOS 8.x describes behavior that depends on the network around the device. Outside a trusted enterprise network it can launch and establish an IPsec connection automatically; inside the trusted network it normally stays idle. This can suit a workforce that regularly moves between an office and remote connections.

A manual disconnect changes the sequence: the guide says the client can remain disconnected when moving back to an untrusted network until the user reconnects. Administrators should understand that behavior when defining connection profiles. VIA also requires the enterprise-side controller or managed-device configuration, including roles and authentication profiles.

Strengths

  • Trusted-network detection and automatic connection behavior
  • Administratively configured connection profiles

Watch out for

  • A prior manual disconnect can leave the client idle after a network change

Best for

  • Aruba-managed organizations with mobile or remote workers
