What it does
RIPE Atlas collects Internet connectivity and reachability measurements from a global network of probes, with public results and facilities for creating measurements.
Begin with an existing measurement and inspect its participating probes and results; most Atlas data can be browsed or downloaded without an account or probe. Creating a measurement needs a RIPE NCC account and sufficient credits. The wizard separates the definition and target, probe selection, and timing, then exposes the accepted measurement’s results. Eligible new accounts can claim 50,000 starter credits once. Probe IDs, countries or ASNs narrow the viewpoint, but selected probes may be disconnected or busy. HTTP measurement needs special approval, and quotas or exhausted credits can stop work. These are observations from participating probes, not a census of Internet connectivity.
Strengths
- Public measurement results without an account
- Historical and ongoing measurements
Watch out for
- Coverage depends on available probes and measurements
