What it does
Bitbucket Pipelines is CI/CD built into Bitbucket Cloud. Teams commit a YAML pipeline file with build, test, and deployment steps; the service runs steps in isolated containers and shows pipeline results with the repository. It is a natural fit when source control and CI are already in Bitbucket Cloud.
Add a bitbucket-pipelines.yml file to the repository and describe the steps needed to build, test, and deploy. Each step runs in its own container, which provides a clean boundary between steps. Deployment controls and permissions depend on the plan, so decide which environments require approval before treating a green pipeline as authorization to deploy.
The public plans include a Free allowance for up to five users and 50 build minutes a month, with paid Standard and Premium tiers and additional minute purchases. The step options documentation sets a maximum of 100 steps per pipeline. That ceiling and the monthly build-minute budget are worth checking when a workflow is heavily segmented or uses slow integration tests. Bitbucket Pipelines is a Bitbucket Cloud feature, not the self-managed Data Center product.
