What it does
Atlassian Design System documents foundations, tokens, components and content standards for Atlassian interfaces. It links Figma libraries, accessibility annotations and development resources. The public reference is free to read, but its licence limits use of the system to software that integrates or interoperates with Atlassian products.
The Get started page divides the system into Design, Develop, With AI and Content design. Designers can find Figma-library and annotation resources; developers get setup and component guidance. Foundations connect typography, colour and spacing to named tokens, while Rovo UI covers AI experiences.
Check the permitted use
Atlassian grants a royalty-free licence for making and distributing add-ons and other software that integrates or interoperates with its products. The agreement restricts other uses, modifications and redistribution of the design system itself. Individual open-source code packages may grant additional rights under their own licences.
That makes this a focused resource for Atlassian ecosystem work, including a Jira or Confluence integration. Public access to the design reference does not make the whole asset collection an unrestricted UI kit for unrelated products.
Strengths
- Named tokens connect interface colours with their roles
- Design, development and content standards have separate entry points
- Rovo UI covers AI-interface patterns
Watch out for
- The system licence limits use to software connected with Atlassian products
- The general licence restricts modification and redistribution of its assets
Best for
- Teams designing add-ons and interfaces that integrate with Atlassian products
