What it does

ATLAS.ti analyzes supplied interviews, focus groups, open-ended surveys and other qualitative material. Windows, Mac and Web applications provide coding, quotations and visualizations. The Web version supports real-time collaboration, while restricted small-project work remains available after the trial.

A research team can organize interview passages and open-ended responses under shared themes in ATLAS.ti. Its Web application imports documents such as Word and PDF files, supports collaborative editing, and exchanges projects with the desktop applications.

AI Code Suggestions works with selected text: highlight a passage, consider the proposed codes and choose which to attach. Suggested names can be edited to fit the study's codebook. This feature is available on Web and desktop, so it can support manual coding without requiring every passage to receive an automatically chosen label.

Trial and continuing small-project access

Create an account to start without a credit card. The trial gives five active-use days within a 20-day window, with separate AI word allowances and no free transcription minutes. After it expires, projects of any size remain viewable, and the restricted software can create or work with projects containing at most 10 documents, 50 quotations, 25 codes and two memos. Exporting a project after the trial requires a paid license.

The Web application provides real-time collaboration. Organizations buying multiple seats can assign and revoke them through license administration; native Windows and Mac applications are also part of the product family.

Strengths

  • Supports native Windows and Mac work alongside browser-based collaboration.
  • Keeps selected passages linked to codes, with optional suggestions that the researcher can edit.

Watch out for

  • The full trial lasts five active days within 20 days and has separate AI limits.
  • Continuing free work has small-project limits, and project export requires payment after the trial.

Best for

  • Researchers analyzing supplied audience feedback, interviews and message-testing material
