What it does
Audiobookshelf organizes and streams personal audiobooks and other supported reading media through a self-hosted server. Its guides explain setup and client use.
Set up the server around your own audiobook folders, then choose the clients that will connect to it. Separate user accounts keep listening progress apart and synchronize it across supported devices. The project’s library guide explains folder naming and metadata, which is useful before importing a large personal collection.
Metadata lookup, library-change detection and scheduled backups reduce routine maintenance, but someone still needs to operate the server and protect the underlying media files. A household library gains control over organization and accounts in exchange for that hosting responsibility. Audiobooks and other content must be supplied separately.
The official client information labels companion offline listening as beta, and the repository says the iOS TestFlight beta is full. Check the client route separately from installing the server, especially for a household using Apple devices.
