What it does
Autodesk 3ds Max provides polygon and spline modelling, texture mapping, character animation and rendering for Windows. Its modifier stack keeps modelling operations editable, while Arnold handles lighting and image output. Paid access includes subscriptions, with a 30-day trial for new users.
The modifier stack lets you revisit earlier shaping operations as a model develops. 3ds Max also includes Boolean operations, Smart Bevel and ReForm retopology for rebuilding a mesh with quadrilateral faces. UVW tools place 2D textures on the model, and the material editor connects shading operations as nodes.
For character work, Biped and Character Animation Toolkit provide rigging and animation systems. Motion paths can be adjusted in the viewport. Arnold is integrated for rendering changes to lights, materials and cameras.
