What it does

Autodesk Netfabb prepares parts for 3D printing with repair, support, packing and lattice tools. The current Fusion with Netfabb subscription runs on Windows and includes related Fusion products. A 30-day trial is available for non-commercial evaluation; Local Simulation is a separate offer.

A repair can run directly on selected parts. In the current help, Home > Run script > Run repair script opens the available built-in or custom scripts. Choose one and click Execute; the job list reports progress for each selected part. This lets a batch use the same documented repair operation.

The part-export dialog can check holes, narrow triangles and intersections before saving. Its tolerance controls when a narrow triangle is treated as degenerate; Check inspects the data and Optimize applies the associated repairs. STL offers ASCII, binary and colour choices. For several parts, export can create one file or separate files with controlled names.

The older import/export guide documents loading through the File menu, project tree or drag and drop, then selecting parts and using File > Export Part to choose a format, settings and destination. Current format references list STL, 3MF and OBJ. STEP, SAT and IGES output requires imported parts that still retain their CAD data. CAD import keeps colours but discards textures.

A saved FABBPROJECT does not embed repair scripts, support sets, machine definitions or build configurations; those need separate files when shared. The subscription includes Netfabb Premium with selected Ultimate functions, Fusion, Manufacturing Extension, Fusion Team and HSMWorks. Local Simulation has its own subscription for thermal and mechanical analysis of metal powder-bed fusion and directed-energy deposition.

One named user may install Netfabb on up to three devices but sign in and use only one at a time. The 30-day trial is limited to non-commercial evaluation.

Strengths

  • A selected repair script can process several parts with visible job progress.
  • Export checks and format controls expose concrete mesh issues before handoff.
  • The preparation subscription includes specified Fusion products.

Watch out for

  • CAD export requires retained CAD data rather than an arbitrary mesh.
  • Project files omit scripts and machine configurations needed for some shared workflows.
  • Metal-process Local Simulation requires a separate subscription.

Best for

  • Additive-manufacturing teams repairing and preparing printable parts
  • Windows workflows that need controlled mesh exports and build preparation
