What it does
BabelMap is a free Windows character map with Unicode browsing, name and code-point search, clipboard copying and two rendering modes.
Search BabelMap by character name or code point, browse a Unicode block, or paste a character and press F2 to locate it. Copy the selected characters into the destination once you have checked them. Glyph mode shows individual, unjoined glyphs; Text mode uses Windows shaping and direction handling, which is useful when inspecting a connected script. Font coverage is a separate requirement: BabelMap uses installed fonts and does not automatically substitute a missing one, although composite fonts can be configured. The documented character data is Unicode 16.
Strengths
- Name and code-point search
- Separate glyph and shaped-text views
Watch out for
- Script shaping support depends on the Windows version
Best for
- Finding or inspecting a Unicode character
