What it does
Bench pairs a dedicated bookkeeper with proprietary software for monthly books, financial visibility, year-end statements and optional tax work. Businesses supply account connections and requested documents, then review the finished records and discuss questions with their team. Paid plans include a lower-cost option for businesses with annual revenue of $250,000 or less.
Bench's bookkeeping-plus-software offering keeps the completed books in its own financial platform. A dedicated bookkeeper reconciles the accounts and prepares ongoing monthly records. The business can view its financials and contact the bookkeeper by message or call to resolve questions.
Plans and where the work lives
| Service | Monthly billing | Annual billing |
|---|---|---|
| Light, for annual revenue up to $250,000 | $199/month | $1,910/year |
| Bookkeeping | $399/month | $3,830/year |
| Bookkeeping + Tax | $649/month | $6,230/year |
The tax package includes filing and up to four tax-advisory calls a year. Monthly tax-package pricing requires a 12-month commitment and purchase at least three months before the filing deadline; otherwise the annual payment option applies.
Bench also offers a separate fractional bookkeeper inside an existing QuickBooks Online account, at $55 an hour plus $1,200 one-time onboarding. Choose that service if the work needs to stay in QuickBooks, rather than assuming the standard Bench software plan uses it.
Supply feeds and statements
Open My Books > Connections, then Add New Account with PLAID. Select the institution, complete its authentication and choose the relevant business accounts. Classify each connected account as business, personal used for business, or not used for the business.
The connection supplies transactions, but it does not replace bank statements needed to verify balances. Upload requested documents against their specific requests. If a requested account had no activity, use its three-dot menu and choose no activity for this month. This tells the bookkeeper that the statement is not simply missing.
Strengths
- A dedicated bookkeeper works alongside shared financial reports
- A separate service can maintain an existing QuickBooks Online file
- Document requests distinguish missing records from months with no activity
Watch out for
- Bank connections do not supply every statement needed for reconciliation
- Monthly tax-package pricing still requires a 12-month commitment
- The standard software service maintains books in Bench's own platform
Best for
- Small businesses outsourcing their monthly bookkeeping
- Businesses deciding between Bench software and support inside QuickBooks
