What it does

BIMobject is a free catalogue of manufacturer building products for architectural and construction projects. An account is required for downloads. Product pages combine technical information, classifications and regional availability, while supported design applications can bring compatible objects into a drawing.

The catalogue groups products by building category and manufacturer, with a project-location setting for the relevant market. Individual product pages can show specifications, classification codes, publication details and available regions. The OKNOPLAST HST MOTION patio-door listing, for example, identifies its manufacturer, technical characteristics and country availability alongside the download control.

Vectorworks documents a specific integration workflow in its 2025 guide. Open the BIMobject tool, sign in, then search or filter the compatible products. Choose an object and Download; some manufacturers first offer configuration options and a preview. Vectorworks prefers a native object when available and otherwise selects a compatible format. Click in the drawing to place the result, which becomes a symbol definition. Optional conversion of a 3D-only object to an auto-hybrid object adds 2D controls but slows the download.

The user terms permit building-industry professionals to include objects in drawings and other documentation for construction projects on which they work. That exception does not provide unrestricted resale or redistribution of the catalogue. Manufacturer content remains the manufacturer's responsibility.

The current privacy policy says downloads and other engagement can share account-linked information with the relevant manufacturer unless the user has opted out after receiving the information.

Strengths

  • Product specifications, classifications and regional availability sit beside the model listing.
  • The documented Vectorworks route includes configuration, import and symbol placement.
  • The terms expressly cover professional use in building-project documentation.

Watch out for

  • Downloading requires an account and can share engagement information with manufacturers.
  • Vectorworks' auto-hybrid conversion adds time to the documented download process.
  • Project-use permission does not allow unrestricted redistribution of the catalogue.

Best for

  • Building professionals selecting manufacturer products for project drawings
  • Vectorworks users importing compatible manufacturer objects
