What it does
BlackLine combines transaction matching, account reconciliation, journal workflows and consolidation with close-task tracking and financial-statement analysis. Controllers can follow exceptions into review and approval before entries reach the ledger. Product scope, licence quantities and fees are agreed through a sales-led subscription.
BlackLine connects transaction differences to the accounting work that resolves them. Matching ingests records from ERP, bank, payroll and other systems, then sends reconciling items into account review or adjusting journals. Journal workflows include validations and approval thresholds before ERP posting.
Follow the close from exceptions to statements
Account reconciliation can use templates and schedules, including daily or ad hoc checks. Grouped reconciliations let related accounts be reviewed together, while balance changes and exceptions determine where further work is needed. Close-task dashboards keep the remaining assignments visible to the team.
At group level, consolidation covers balance aggregation, ownership interests, eliminations and top-side adjustments. Financial statements can drill into transaction detail and earlier commentary. The linked history helps a controller explain both a reported balance and how it was prepared.
BlackLine also offers AI-assisted preparation and accrual workflows. These produce material for staff to review; they do not remove the journal approval process or establish that a proposed entry is correct.
Plan the subscribed scope
Arrange a demonstration around the reconciliation types, journal approvals and reporting entities the business needs. The order form determines the products, quantities, charges and measurement basis, which can include users, records or other contracted units. There is no single public price covering the whole financial-close platform.
Named user licences cannot be shared between people, although the agreement permits reassignment under its terms. Evaluation access is governed separately from production subscriptions. Make the intended reviewers and approvers part of the licence and workflow design before implementation.
