What it does
Blockstream App is a self-custody wallet for Bitcoin, with Lightning and Liquid features and optional Jade hardware integration. It is available on desktop, iOS and Android. Wallet use and network transfers have different costs, and Liquid conversions currently need particular attention to the network recovery notices.
Blockstream App brings several Bitcoin-related payment routes into one product. An on-chain Bitcoin address, Lightning payment and Liquid asset belong to different flows, so choose the matching account and payment type before preparing a transfer.
Back up the mobile wallet
The app can open a wallet before the manual backup is complete. To finish it, open Security and select Backup Now. Write down the recovery phrase, complete the word-order check and create the requested PIN. The PIN provides convenient local access; the phrase is the backup needed if the device is lost or damaged.
For an on-chain Bitcoin payment, use Transact > Send, paste the recipient's address or scan its QR code, and enter the amount. Change speed adjusts the proposed network fee. Check the destination, amount and fee before the final Slide to Send action. The fee in this flow is paid to Bitcoin miners, not to Blockstream.
Liquid recovery status
The Liquid Federation's October 20, 2026 update says provider-mediated BTC/LBTC swaps are being enabled while direct Federation peg-outs remain restricted. It describes restoration of full 1:1 bitcoin backing and normal Federation peg-outs as remaining recovery steps. A functioning wallet screen does not establish that either step has completed.
Anyone relying on Liquid-to-Bitcoin conversion should check the latest network notice and the participating provider's availability. This limitation concerns Liquid's network and reserve-restoration process; it does not establish that the app's wallet keys were compromised.
The wallet software is available without a subscription, and its desktop code uses GPLv3. Jade hardware and integrated buying, swapping or other services have separate costs and conditions.

Watch out for
- Liquid conversion remains subject to the staged recovery described in the October 20 notice.
- An unbacked-up mobile wallet can become inaccessible if the device is lost.
