What it does

Boxicons offers an icon explorer with color, padding, rotation, flipping and size controls. It supplies artwork and code formats, design plugins and framework packages through free and Pro access.

Choose a pack and visual treatment in the explorer, adjust the icon, then select an export such as SVG, PNG or React. Figma and Framer plugins offer similar visual controls within the design tool.

For free React icons, install @boxicons/react and import a component such as Alarm. Its pack property switches between basic and filled variants, while SVG properties handle appearance and accessibility. Imports include only the selected icons in the application bundle; numeric names receive an Icon prefix, such as Icon8Ball.

Free assets permit personal and commercial work. Their artwork uses CC BY 4.0, fonts use OFL and code uses MIT; keep the embedded licence notices. Pro adds paid packs and seats for individual, team or enterprise access.

Pro source files cannot be shared publicly, and use in templates for third-party platforms needs express permission. Check the purchase terms for download and update coverage before choosing a paid plan; the free React package provides a separate route for the main icon workflow.

Strengths

  • Offers visual adjustments before exporting or copying an icon.
  • Free React components support selective imports and several variants.

Watch out for

  • Pro packs require paid access and the appropriate user seats.
  • Pro assets have restrictions on public sharing and third-party templates.

Best for

  • Teams sharing icon choices between design tools and code.
  • Interfaces needing controlled styles and multiple output formats.
