What it does
Octave BricsCAD Pro combines DWG drafting, 3D modelling and land-surveying tools. Its extrusion command creates solids or surfaces, with direction, taper and interaction settings. Pro is available by subscription or perpetual purchase, with a 30-day trial that needs no credit card.
EXTRUDE accepts drawing entities, regions, solid faces or closed boundaries. Choose Solid or Surface mode, then set a height by typing a distance or using the manipulator. Direction, Path and taper options provide other ways to control the result, and multiple profiles can be extruded together.
A closed profile is needed for a solid. Open profiles produce surfaces, and a path cannot lie in the same plane as the profile. A taper must avoid self-intersecting sides. Create makes a new volume; Subtract removes it from intersecting solids; Unite joins it to them. Both sides extrudes symmetrically.
Check DELOBJ when the original drawing profiles need to remain: that setting controls whether source entities are kept, deleted or offered for deletion. Automatic boolean behaviour also depends on the workspace, so Mechanical or BIM defaults should not be assumed in Draft and Modeling.
The displayed Pro single-user prices are EUR 710 for one year or EUR 1,910 for three years. A perpetual licence costs EUR 1,596, including first-year maintenance; maintenance renewal is EUR 266 yearly. Local taxes and duties are extra. The 30-day free trial needs no credit card.
A single licence is for one person. Network licensing uses a local licence server and purchased concurrent seats. In the United States, the EULA excludes creation and editing of Dynamic Blocks; this restriction does not describe ordinary static blocks.
Strengths
- Typed distances, paths and taper provide several extrusion controls.
- Source-profile retention can be set separately from the resulting solid.
- Pro offers both fixed-term subscriptions and a perpetual licence.
Watch out for
- Open profiles cannot produce watertight solids through EXTRUDE.
- Dynamic Block creation and editing are not licensed for US use.
- Network licences require a licence server and sufficient concurrent seats.
Best for
- Developing 3D volumes from DWG cross-sections
- CAD users who need explicit control over extrusion and boolean results
