What it does
Briefcase Type Foundry publishes retail typefaces, trial files and a help center. Its guidance separates print, web, e-book and mobile uses and explains user and location limits.
Briefcase's trial package contains desktop OTF and web WOFF2 files for layout evaluation and non-commercial student work. The Trial Fonts page asks returning customers to log in and new customers to create an account. Trials have a small character set and no OpenType features, so a full specimen is still needed to check accents or alternate forms.
Paid fonts can be used indefinitely. Basic desktop coverage permits five computers at one geographic location; extra locations need separate coverage. After buying, open Fonts in your account to download files, add licences or upgrade individual styles to a complete family by paying the difference. Orders contains the invoices.
A client who needs to install the fonts needs their own licence. For a logo-only delivery, Briefcase recommends vector outlines so the client can use the artwork without the font files. Public PDFs also need care: the help guide permits embedded fonts for print templates, but says to disable embedding for public PDF distribution.
