What it does

Brisk Budget keeps household account and transaction records in files on your own server. The browser app is free under the MIT licence and includes a CSV import wizard, cash-flow charts and balance forecasts. No online registration is needed for the default installation.

Import a statement and map its columns to the transaction fields, then review how transfers are represented. Brisk Budget can link an existing pair of imported transactions as a transfer without adding another pair. That helps keep movement between accounts separate from household spending.

The CSV importer handles separate money-in and money-out columns used by UK banks, detects duplicates and remembers mapping choices for each account. Search and bulk categorization help clean up a longer history, and deletion has an undo option.

Getting it running

Install the Node.js application on your own server, then open its address in a browser. Settings > General contains your name, currency symbol and chart grouping. The interface also works on phone and tablet screens and can be installed from the browser as a web app.

Brisk Budget keeps hourly backups, retaining the latest 24, and lets you download a backup or restore from inside the app.

Strengths

  • Recurring payments can be logged manually or recorded on their due date, with suggestions based on transaction history
  • Data check can find transfers whose matching entry is missing

Watch out for

  • Password protection is off by default; Brisk Budget provides the switch under Settings > Security

Best for

  • Households wanting a file-based finance tracker on their own server
