What it does

Bank Simpanan Nasional connects BSN accounts to myBSN Internet Banking and the myBSN Mobile App. Customers can pay bills, transfer money and review recent payments. Basic Savings has no annual or maintenance fee, while digital transaction approval requires BSNSecure activation.

A basic account with branch access

BSN Basic Savings opens with RM20 and has no balance to maintain afterwards. It is available to Malaysian citizens and permanent residents, with individual accounts from age seven and trust accounts for younger children. Apply at a BSN branch with identification.

The account has no annual or maintenance fee, and debit-card issuance and annual fees are waived. Cards are available from age 13. BSN counter cash services and withdrawals at its own terminals are free, subject to the account’s transaction limits.

Registering myBSN

The ordinary Internet Banking registration route is for BSN cardholders aged 18 or older. Choose Register, enter the card number and expiry date, then supply the relevant identity or passport number. Create a user ID, complete verification by one-time code and select a security image.

Use the same credentials in myBSN Mobile App. Register BSNSecure there, then activate it at a BSN ATM or cash recycling machine. Its 12-hour waiting period applies after activation, including when registering a replacement phone.

Reviewing payments and their fees

In Internet Banking, open Account Overview, select the account and choose View myBSN Transaction History. It shows payments from the previous 60 days.

Access to myBSN is free. Its standard online Interbank GIRO charge is RM0.10 per transaction. DuitNow transfers below RM5,000 have no charge; a transfer of RM5,000 or more costs RM0.50. Transfers between BSN accounts and payments to a BSN credit card have no fee. These charges are separate from the account’s free maintenance and card allowance.
