What it does

Wallet by BudgetBakers combines household expense tracking, budgets, planned payments and cash-flow views. Transactions can be entered manually, imported from financial files or synced from supported banks. Manual tracking has a free tier; Premium adds bank synchronization and selective household sharing.

Register with email, Google or Facebook, or use Sign in with Apple on iOS. Choose the default currency carefully: changing it requires deleting your user data and starting again. Existing records can be imported from CSV, XLS or OFX files.

Build the spending plan around the categories used in your household. On Android, open the menu, choose Budgets and tap plus. On iOS, use Planning > Budgets > plus. Enter a name, period and amount, then select categories and optional account or label filters. The budget's predicted spending combines recorded expenses, planned payments and an estimate based on previous periods; it is different from the amount already spent.

Sharing a household budget

A Premium owner can invite free users through Group Sharing, using their registered Wallet email addresses. New members initially have access to all accounts, so review each member's permissions. Set a private account to No access, or give read-only access where someone should see records without editing them. Group Sharing is available in the mobile apps, not the web app.

Paying for Premium

Premium is sold as a monthly or annual subscription and as a lifetime purchase, with the same Premium feature set. The US iOS listing currently shows Lifetime Premium at US$29.99 once. The Get Wallet Premium screen displays the offers for your account and platform. A Premium trial becomes a paid subscription unless canceled before it ends.

The same Wallet login works across iOS, Android and the web, though features differ by platform. For developers, the service also offers a REST API for accessing financial records.

Strengths

  • Budget estimates include planned payments as well as recorded expenses.
  • Group permissions can keep selected accounts private or read-only.
  • CSV, XLS and OFX imports support a move from existing records.

Watch out for

  • The default currency cannot be changed without resetting user data.
  • Group Sharing is unavailable on the web app.

Best for

  • Households tracking shared and private accounts in the same finance app
  • People combining manual records with supported bank connections
