What it does

Buckets is a family budgeting application for Windows, Mac and Linux. It supports envelope-style planning, manual records, file imports and optional bank synchronization. A household licence costs US$64 once, and the untimed trial lets you evaluate it before purchasing.

What the buckets do

Enter account names and balances in Accounts, then use Buckets to divide the money among expenses and goals. The Rain figure is the amount still available to allocate.

A Recurring expense bucket sets a monthly contribution. Save X by Y date takes an amount and deadline and calculates the monthly amount needed.

In Transactions, click Categorize, choose the bucket and save. For a purchase spanning several categories, change the amount beside the first bucket, then add another. Categorizing both sides of an own-account movement as Transfers avoids counting it as income.

Purchase, trial and sharing

The US$64 one-time licence covers your computers and those of immediate family living in the same home. The purchase is non-refundable. The untimed trial has the same budgeting functions, but adds a licence-saving bucket, a small label and occasional purchase reminders.

Buckets says finances remain on your computer. Bank data can come from file imports, recorded macros or the separate SimpleFIN Bridge service. Optional synchronization services have their own registration requirements.

For device sharing, open Preferences → Sharing, establish a connection, pair the devices and share the budget file. The mobile companion is currently read-only, so budget edits belong on the desktop.
