What it does

bunq provides personal and business banking through its iOS and Android app. Personal plans range from bunq Free to paid Core, Pro and Elite, with multiple accounts, cards and other features depending on the plan. Personal account access is limited to supported European countries and applicants who meet bunq’s document and acceptance rules.

Compare bunq personal plans

Plan Monthly price Focus in the plan comparison
Free €0 Digital cards and basic app banking
Core €3.99 Physical card and card spending abroad
Pro €9.99 More account and budgeting options
Elite €18.99 Further travel and account benefits

The Free plan’s ZeroFX card-spending allowance is limited to €1,000 a year. Core, Pro and Elite list unlimited ZeroFX card payments. Individual features still have their own conditions.

Who can open an account?

bunq publishes a supported-country list that includes the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and Slovenia. Applicants who are not European citizens need an accepted identity or residence document. Several overseas territories are excluded.

Someone moving to a supported country can begin signup before moving and finish after arrival. Under-18s need a legal guardian’s permission and an existing bunq account held by that guardian. Business accounts follow a separate eligibility and pricing route.

Strengths

  • Personal plans include digital cards and multiple account options.
  • Signup can be started before moving to a supported European country.

Watch out for

  • A Free plan has a €1,000 annual allowance for ZeroFX card payments.
  • Personal eligibility excludes specified overseas territories.
  • A minor needs permission from a guardian who also has a bunq account.

Best for

  • Residents of supported European countries comparing app-based personal accounts
  • Families considering a supervised account for a child
