What it does

PhonePe Payment Gateway accepts Indian online payments through website and app integrations or shareable payment links. It supports cards, net banking, wallets and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments, with a merchant dashboard and developer tools. Merchant registration and verification precede live use, with commercial terms agreed for the account.

To send a single request, open Payment links > New paylinks > Single payment link in the business dashboard. Enter the amount, reason for payment, customer details and your reference number. Choose the expiry date, which defaults to one month after creation, then select Generate link.

A website integration creates an authorized payment request with an amount, unique order ID and return address, then opens the checkout page. Developers can set its expiry and pass their own reference information. Payment confirmation should come from the server notification, called a webhook, or the order-status API. The return to the shop is only one part of that flow.

Getting ready for real payments

Registration asks whether sales take place through a website, app or social media, or in a store. The online route begins with an email address and Indian mobile number. Merchant terms require business and bank details, including PAN tax identification, applicable GST details and the bank's IFSC routing code, with verification before use.

After testing an integration, send the test website or app to PhonePe's integration team for review. Production credentials follow approval. The developer then replaces the test addresses and credentials with their production equivalents.

The advertised free-processing offer is time limited. Confirm its eligibility, duration and the following fee schedule in the merchant agreement before budgeting ongoing collections. The contract also distinguishes collected funds from the bank settlement amount, which is reduced by agreed fees and other applicable deductions.
