What it does

C24 Bank combines a German current account with Pockets that have their own IBANs. Money can arrive directly in a Pocket, leave through a transfer or Direct Debit, or be spent through a linked card. The app adds budgets, spending analysis and configurable savings rules.

A C24 Pocket can do more than label money for later. Its own IBAN accepts incoming payments and Direct Debits, and a linked card can spend from its balance. Give the Pocket a name, icon and colour, then set a savings target to follow progress.

C24 offers several ways to fund it automatically. Card purchases can be rounded to the next €1, €5 or €10, with the difference moved into a chosen Pocket. A €13.20 purchase rounded to the next €5 would put €1.80 aside. The income distributor can allocate percentages or fixed amounts, while surplus saving moves money on a chosen day and leaves a reserve in the main account.

Account choices

Plan Monthly fee Included Pockets Virtual cards Included ATM withdrawals per month
Smart €0 4 1 4
Plus €5.90 20 20 20
Max €9.90 20 20 20

The paid tiers also differ in card type and cashback. Those extras sit alongside the same basic idea of separate balances and spending controls.

Opening begins with a mobile number and email, followed by the app and identity verification. Applicants need to be at least 18, resident and taxable in Germany, and have an accepted ID and compatible phone set to the German app store. US tax liability is excluded, as is reopening within 12 months of closing a C24 current account.

Strengths

  • Pockets support their own payment details and can be linked to cards.
  • Income splitting supports both percentages and fixed amounts.
  • Surplus saving lets the holder preserve a reserve in the main account.

Watch out for

  • Smart includes fewer Pockets, virtual cards and ATM withdrawals than the paid plans.
  • Opening requires German residence and tax status, accepted ID and a compatible phone.

Best for

  • German residents dividing bills and spending between separate balances
  • People using income allocation and card round-ups to fund savings goals
