What it does

NCI’s multimedia programme includes photographs, illustrations, videos and infographics. Its official guide points to Visuals Online for downloadable graphics and a small b-roll collection, alongside videos on NCI’s YouTube channels.

Use the Infographics link for visual explanations of cancer statistics and NCI information, or B-Roll Video for downloadable footage. Videos on NCI’s main YouTube channel can also be embedded in a website or social post.

NCI states that most of its multimedia is free for educational or noncommercial use, with credit to the National Cancer Institute and no implication of endorsement. Image credits still matter: graphics explicitly credited to NCI can be reused without its permission, while images credited to private designers or companies require permission from those creators. If the creator is unclear, NCI provides an enquiry contact.

Strengths

  • Separate routes distinguish infographics, downloadable b-roll and embeddable videos.
  • Reuse guidance explains how image credits identify third-party material.

Watch out for

  • Private-sector graphics in NCI publications need permission from their creators.

Best for

  • Science communicators sourcing cancer-related visual material
