What it does
Carbone generates reports from JSON data and templates in formats such as DOCX, ODT, HTML, XLSX, and PPTX. It also provides document conversion and hosted or self-hosted deployment routes.
Bind JSON fields to an office template, then render an editable document or select PDF conversion. The repository's Node example needs LibreOffice for PDF; it can produce same-format office output without that converter. Keep editions distinct: the embeddable source release lags the current engine, while current Docker Community enables a free subset and paid licensing unlocks advanced features. The Community licence restricts offering a competing hosted document-generation service. Cloud accounting uses injected JSON and image size in 1 MB units, so one report can count as several documents.
Strengths
- Reuses office-document templates across generation and conversion workflows.
Watch out for
- Community and Enterprise differ in features and versions; Cloud document accounting can multiply with injected data size.
Best for
- Teams automating documents from JSON and existing office layouts
