What it does
Catchpoint is an Internet Performance Monitoring platform for checking how websites, applications, APIs, and user journeys perform across external networks and an organization's own network. Its product pages describe synthetic tests alongside real-user, BGP, and endpoint monitoring, with global agents and analytics intended to help teams locate trouble in dependencies such as DNS, CDNs, SaaS providers, and ISPs. It detects and helps diagnose availability or performance problems; responders still need to address the underlying cause. Catchpoint is now part of LogicMonitor.
Monitor from the network edge inward
Catchpoint focuses on what users and employees experience across the Internet Stack, not only on whether an application process is running. Its documentation describes scheduled node-based synthetic tests that repeat an interaction so teams can establish a baseline and spot changes. Tests can run from Catchpoint's global node fleet or from an Enterprise Node inside an organization's network, which helps compare an external service issue with a problem limited to an internal path. The product site also lists real-user, BGP, endpoint, and Internet Stack visibility capabilities.
Start with a single check, then make it repeatable
For a quick incident check, the Instant Tests feature can run a one-off node-based, endpoint-based, or WebPageTest test, using an existing configuration or a new one. For ongoing coverage, the documented portal workflow is to open Control Center > Tests, choose a product or folder, select New, and pick a test and monitor type. Configuration varies by test type. Choose a target and appropriate locations, then use the recurring results to compare availability and performance over time; a check from several locations can help determine whether a slowdown is localized or affects multiple networks.
Catchpoint provides signals for finding and narrowing an incident, such as whether performance degrades around a DNS, CDN, SaaS, or ISP dependency. It does not itself repair the failing service or network. The docs state that each division receives 100 free Instant Test runs per day; after those are used, further instant runs consume the same number of points as a similarly configured scheduled test. That allowance is for instant runs, not evidence of a general free plan.
Catchpoint's current site says it is part of LogicMonitor. LogicMonitor's pricing page presents Internet Performance Monitoring and synthetics within its platform packages, but the reviewed page does not specify a Catchpoint-specific entitlement or standalone rate. Confirm the applicable package and quote with the vendor before planning a rollout.
Strengths
- Scheduled synthetic tests can run from a worldwide node fleet or private Enterprise Nodes inside an organization's network.
- Repeating the same synthetic interaction provides a baseline for spotting changes in availability and performance.
- Instant Tests offer a one-off check for troubleshooting without first setting up a recurring test.
Watch out for
- The documented 100 free Instant Test runs per division per day are limited to one-off checks; additional runs consume points at the rate of a similarly configured scheduled test.
Best for
- Investigating regional website or API latency across DNS, CDN, SaaS, and ISP dependencies.
- Comparing external user paths with monitoring from an organization's internal network.
- Teams that need both scheduled synthetic monitoring and one-off checks during incidents.
