What it does

CGAxis brings together 3D models, PBR materials, HDRI lighting maps and decals. Its catalogue includes browser previews and a desktop Hub for placing assets into supported applications.

The catalogue separates models, surface materials, lighting maps and decals. Selected models have an interactive browser preview that can be rotated and zoomed before downloading. This preview is offered for a subset of the library, so it is not available on every item.

Item details identify the intended application or renderer. For example, Apple Tree 3D Model 3.8m lists variants for 3ds Max and Cinema 4D, alongside FBX, OBJ and VRMesh. Its Max labels distinguish Corona, V-Ray, Scanline and Mental Ray versions. These are that tree's listed options; another asset can have a different set.

CGAxis also offers its Hub desktop app for browsing the catalogue and appending assets into applications including Blender, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Maya, Unreal and Unity. The site advertises both unlimited and pay-as-you-go access. The browser catalogue remains useful for choosing the asset type, checking available previews and comparing the listed delivery options before adding content to a scene.

Strengths

  • Models, materials, lighting maps and decals can be found in one catalogue.
  • Some models can be inspected interactively before a download.
  • Item labels identify application and renderer variants.

Watch out for

  • Interactive browser previews cover only part of the catalogue.

Best for

  • Selecting furnishings, vegetation and surfaces for visualisation
  • Comparing renderer-specific asset variants before adding them to a scene
