What it does
Chaos Anima populates architectural scenes with animated people and vehicles. Its library includes posed, rigged and 4D characters, while simulation tools coordinate movement through a scene. It works through the Anima application and integrations for 3ds Max, Cinema 4D and Unreal Engine. An annual subscription provides one floating licence, shared only when it is available.
Anima 7 can use waypoints and scene surfaces to find pedestrian routes around slopes and obstacles. Walking surfaces and collision geometry can be prepared in 3ds Max or Cinema 4D and sent to Anima. Vehicle tools add routes, intersections and automatic wheel and suspension motion.
The character types serve different jobs. Posed people are single meshes for still images. Ambient people add small idle movements. Rigged people suit background crowds, while 4D humans use animated meshes for closer views. Clothing-colour variation helps keep repeated crowd assets less uniform.
Anima Standalone offers an annual subscription for one floating licence, before taxes. The licence can be shared among users when available, rather than used by everyone simultaneously.
Render Node installations have been free since version 5.6.0; creating scenes or adding content in a Workstation installation still needs a licence. Assets cannot be exported as FBX, Alembic, OBJ or similar general formats. They stay within supported Anima applications and plugins, so the same content cannot simply be moved into Blender, D5, Lumion or Twinmotion. Cinema 4D and Unreal integrations are Windows-only.
Strengths
- Different asset types cover still images, idle movement and animated crowds.
- Supported scene render nodes do not consume an extra Anima licence.
Watch out for
- Content cannot be exported to common interchange formats for unsupported applications.
- Cinema 4D and Unreal integrations are limited to their Windows versions.
Best for
- Architectural visualisers adding pedestrian and traffic movement
- Teams rendering animated people through supported 3D applications
