What it does
Chaos Corona is a renderer for architectural visualization in 3ds Max and Cinema 4D. Its documented tools include interactive rendering, LightMix, scattering and procedural clouds.
Chaos Corona targets architectural visualization inside 3ds Max and Cinema 4D. Interactive rendering helps develop composition and materials, while scattering, procedural clouds and LightMix support scene refinement. The host application supplies the modelling environment.
LightMix can turn one render into several lighting treatments. In Cinema 4D, enable Corona Multi-Pass, run Setup Interactive LightMix and group lights by instance, group, layer or individually. After rendering, adjust their intensity and colour in the frame buffer. Settings can be saved, reloaded or baked back into scene lights, and CXR files can be adjusted in the standalone Corona Image Editor.
There are practical limits: LightMix colours filter the original light colour, extreme intensity increases can expose noise, and each LightSelect pass uses memory. Grouping lights limits the number of separate passes. Standard access starts with a 30-day trial. Solo provides a named personal licence; Premium and Collection provide floating access with broader services, and Collection adds Vantage for real-time exploration.
Strengths
- LightMix changes lighting treatments without a fresh render for every adjustment.
- CXR files retain lighting controls for Corona Image Editor.
- Automatic setup can group lights into manageable passes.
Watch out for
- Extreme LightMix intensity increases can reveal noise.
- Many LightSelect passes at high resolution can consume substantial RAM.
- Corona requires a compatible 3ds Max or Cinema 4D workflow.
Best for
- Interior and exterior visualization artists
- Teams presenting several lighting treatments of one scene
