What it does
Chase UK offers a free app-based current account with spending insights and a linked saver for savings goals. You need to be at least 18, resident only in the UK and a UK tax resident, with a compatible smartphone and UK mobile number. The UK service currently offers individual accounts rather than joint accounts.
Day-to-day banking and saving
The saver is opened alongside an existing Chase current account. It lets you name a goal and add money over time, while spending insights show activity in the current account.
Using the debit card abroad
Chase does not add a fee to overseas card use and applies Mastercard’s exchange rate to purchases made in the local currency. A cash-machine operator can still charge its own fee. Cash withdrawals are limited to £500 a day, with an additional £1,500 calendar-month limit abroad from the current account.
In the app, Manage card → Card controls → Payments outside UK controls overseas payments. Restricted destinations are excluded from Chase services.
Download the Chase app to apply. Besides the residence and device requirements, Chase checks its credit-history criteria using a soft search. A couple seeking a shared bank account should note that Chase UK does not currently offer joint accounts.
Strengths
- The linked saver supports goals and top-ups.
- Card controls include an option to enable or disable payments outside the UK.
Watch out for
- Applicants must be UK-only residents and UK tax residents.
- No joint accounts are currently available.
- Overseas cash withdrawals from the current account have a £1,500 monthly limit.
Best for
- Eligible UK residents seeking app-based everyday account management
