What it does
ClamAV is an open-source antivirus engine with documented packages, containers and signature-writing resources.
ClamAV is an engine to integrate into a file-handling workflow. A server administrator might scan incoming files before another process accepts them, while a desktop user can use the relevant packaged tools. Its repository links installation guidance for packages and Docker. Decide when files are scanned and how detections are handled before wiring it into a pipeline. Signature updates and quarantine policy are operational tasks; installing an engine alone does not define the whole response to a suspicious file.
ClamAV's README states GPLv2 for the project and lists separate licenses for bundled third-party components. That matters when distributing an integrated scanner; an open-source label alone does not describe every included component's redistribution terms.
