What it does
The Cleveland Museum of Art offers free images of eligible public-domain artworks and open collection data. Its Open Access program supports art publications, teaching materials and digital collections.
Filter Collection Online for Open Access, check the CC0 mark, then use the artwork page’s download button for the image and metadata. Collection data covers restricted works too, so a catalogue record alone does not mean its photograph is reusable.
For a larger project, the public API supplies image links alongside object information without an API key. Available versions include web, print and full-size images; JSON and CSV datasets offer another route.
CC0 requires no credit, although the museum provides a suggested citation. Requests for restricted images or versions with a colour bar go through Image Services, with a $75 processing fee when available and possible additional charges.
