What it does

CleverTap coordinates personalised messages and customer journeys across email and other channels. Its journey settings connect audience rules, delivery timing, goals and timeouts. Core starts with a 30-day free trial after signup, with billing beginning when that trial ends.

Choose the entry pattern before drawing the messages. Live segments can react to an action, inaction or property date, while past-behaviour segments qualify on a daily cycle. A one-time journey admits its initial audience once; recurring or selected-date journeys can allow people to return after exiting and qualifying again. A monthly renewal reminder therefore needs different entry settings from a single launch announcement.

Event timestamps matter: action-entry and goal evaluation accept timestamps only within 60 minutes in the past or two minutes in the future relative to processing. Backfilled or delayed events outside that window are discarded before those checks. Investigate timestamps before assuming that a missing journey entry is a segmentation problem.

Set a journey timeout and define what happens when a message cannot be sent. If Do Not Disturb discards a message and no unreachable path is drawn, the user can remain at that engagement node.

Plan pricing is based on monthly active users or data points. Core's 30-day trial converts to paid billing, with taxes and add-ons charged separately. AI tools draw from their own token allowance, so estimate those requests separately from audience growth.

Strengths

  • Entry timelines and re-entry rules distinguish one-time campaigns from recurring lifecycle work
  • Journey timeouts and explicit exit paths control how long users remain in a sequence

Watch out for

  • Late event timestamps can prevent action-entry and goal evaluation
  • A discarded message without an unreachable path can leave a user waiting at its node

Best for

  • Lifecycle teams building event-driven and recurring customer messaging journeys
