What it does

Clipper exchanges major crypto assets using offchain price calculations and onchain validation. Quotes combine external exchange feeds with pool state. Its wallet interface serves traders, while the request-for-quote API lets developers build routes with explicit amounts and expiry.

A Clipper quote has an acceptance deadline. Developers can request either the amount to spend or the desired amount to receive, together with the chain and token pair. Extending the requested validity period can worsen the rate, so quote duration is part of the exchange decision.

The integration sequence is to inspect the pool, request a firm quote and construct the swap using its signed terms. Clipper expects sequential execution: after a successful swap, older outstanding quotes may no longer work. Reusing a signed quote or submitting several stale ones can fail while still consuming network gas.

Ordinary visitors start by connecting a wallet. The API also checks wallet characteristics, including whether it is a regular externally controlled wallet, has an ETH balance and has previous transactions. Developers should account for these checks before assuming every new or contract-based wallet will be accepted.

The protocol fee page describes an approximately 0.1% spread included in trades. Compare the quoted output and network cost together. The pricing model relies on external feeds and offchain computation, even though the resulting swap is validated onchain.

Interface eligibility includes legal-age and sanctions requirements, with a list of excluded territories. A wallet connection alone does not establish eligibility.

Strengths

  • Quotes can target input or desired output
  • Explicit acceptance deadlines and validity settings
  • Signed quote terms pass into the exchange contract

Watch out for

  • Older quotes can fail after another swap executes
  • Wallet-history and balance checks affect API access
  • Pricing depends on offchain computation and external feeds

Best for

  • Swap developers and wallet traders comparing firm quotes for major assets
